Preserving Elgin's Firefighting History since 1991
The Museum's Mission
The Elgin fire barn No. 5 is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Elgin's firefighting history. Through exhibitions and exhibits, we aim to honor the brave firefighters who served and inspire future generations.
A Community Landmark
Designated a National Historic Place in 1991, the museum stands as a symbol of Elgin's resilience and community pride. It reflects decades of efforts to preserve both the building and the treasured artifacts.
In 1990, dedicated Elgin residents came together to save the city’s last fire barn, built in 1903. By 1991, the building earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, cementing its importance as a historical and cultural landmark. Today, the museum has a wide range of firefighting memorabilla, serving as a tribute to those who served and to the evolution of fire safety.
